The French Embassy in Thailand led an expedition of companies from France in the space and astronomy industry to the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) on 3 March 2023 following its successful first stop at Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency or GISTDA in Sriracha, Chonburi on 2 March 2023. The meeting aimed to foster collaborations between the two countries in space and astronomy, with the goal of creating a sound space and astronomy ecosystem in both nations.

The French delegation comprised representatives from various companies, including Airbus Defense and Space, CNES (the French space agency), and Thales Alenia Space. The group met with officials from NARIT, Science and Technology Park, Chiang Mai University and other local organizations to discuss potential partnerships and explore opportunities for joint research and development projects.

During the meeting, the French businesses showcased their expertise in areas such as Earth observation, satellite communications, and space exploration. They also expressed their interest in working with Thai startups and businesses in the space and astronomy industries, with the aim of sharing knowledge and resources to benefit both countries.

The French Embassy in Thailand, led by the French Honorary Consul in Chiang Mai, Mr Thomas Baude in a statement, said that the event marked an important milestone in the long-standing relationship between France and Thailand, particularly in the field of space and astronomy. The embassy also expressed its hope that the meeting would lead to fruitful collaborations and the development of a robust space and astronomy ecosystem in both countries.

Dr Saran Poshyachinda, Executive Director of NARIT, commented that the meeting was an excellent opportunity for Thai businesses and startups to learn from their French counterparts and explore potential partnerships. He added that NARIT was committed to promoting collaboration between Thailand and other countries in the space and astronomy sectors to drive innovation and support the growth of the industry in the region.
