postdoc position in full polarisation masers at NARIT Thailand

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral position to work on a project relating to full polarisation studies of astronomical masers (using single dish and VLBI telescopes) and developing the pipeline for the 40m TNRT polarisation calibration. The successful candidate will work under Dr. Kitiyanee Asanok and will take a leadership role of the sub-project inside the polarisation project.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • develop the pipeline for doing the single dish polarisation calibration which can be applied with masers and pulsars or other targets
  • demonstrate research excellence in the study of astrophysical maser polarisation
  • can publish at least one paper within a year or two years contract
  • help to run the polarisation research group
  • can be supervised to students at the undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • contribute to successful applications for competitive research grants and/ or funding to deliver research impact
  • Join the conferences and seminars both domestic, international events
  • take a leading role in the sub-project of non-paramagnetic full polarisation studies by monitoring the polarisation data during flaring events using single dish and VLBI telescope

The star formation group at National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) has 3 main themes, e.g., star formation process via multi wavelength study, monitoring of periodic/flare masers, and study of full polarisation astronomical masers. Our sub-group is interested in studying the full polarisation both in para and non-paramagnetic masers. Moreover, there are two sub-projects inside of this i.e. monitoring the magnetic field strengths and direction during the flare event of periodic sources, and another is to monitor the SiO masers at 44 GHz toward the evolved stars. The latter sub-project is both theoretical and observational works. In addition, the 40m Thai National Radio Telescope (TNRT) was recently completely installed and it could be used in science commissioning by the end of next year. Therefore, this is a good opportunity for doing unbiased molecular and maser line surveys along the Galactic plane by using our own TNRT. The selected candidate postdoc will be a part to contribute to the great science commissioning projects with us.
