History and Heritage of Astronomy

The archaeological astronomy research of NARIT focuses on the study of archaeoastronomy to construct archaeological and religious sites and to develop agricultural planning calendars. The efforts include the preservation, conservation, and transformation of Thailand's archaeological heritage related to astronomy. Comparative studies of dates and months according to calendars specified in various inscriptions in Southeast Asia to the Gregorian calendar are conducted. Additionally, research is carried out to connect the knowledge of astronomy in the Thai ethnic group with other relevant cultures, including training programs to transfer knowledge to interested people, especially students in various educational institutions.
